Control Without the Complexity
Challenge
Users struggled to control their smart homes as the Apple Home app grew increasingly complex.
Concept
The Home app was organized around devices. We reorganized it around how people actually live in their homes.
Everything Visible. Nothing Buried.
The redesigned Home screen puts every capability one tap away. No device lists. No digging.
My Role
I wrote the copy that turned a feature-heavy app into something people actually wanted to explore. That meant onboarding copy for new users, category education for every room in the house, and a path from discovery to Apple Store checkout.
Teach First. Sell Second.
Discover led with education framed around how people use their homes, not the devices inside them. Each story closed with curated accessories they could buy directly from the Apple Store.
Global Collaboration
Writing for a global, preinstalled app meant working closely with localization teams to ensure copy stayed clear, approachable, and true to Apple's voice across cultures.
Impact
The redesign transformed a fragmented smart home experience into an approachable one. Clear onboarding gave users a simpler path to explore features, add devices, and build confidence.
